What flies over one house

Delivery drones broadcast their position and identity continuously, by law. These are the ones that passed over a single address in Texas, recorded by our own receivers — not a national feed, and not anyone else's hardware.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic 4 1

The two number columns say different things. A small fleet flying constantly and a large one passing occasionally can produce a similar detection count and look nothing alike in the second column — which is the more interesting number, and the one a single detection total hides.

Across the wider network

Everything above is from our own receivers at one address. This is different: what was observable across every receiver whose data reaches us, most of which belongs to other people. Wider reach, weaker claim — coverage is uneven and an aircraft out of range of all of them is simply absent.

Read the two columns together here as well. An operator flying a small fleet along fixed corridors and one spreading many aircraft across a city can post similar detection totals and be running nothing alike.

How this was recorded

The first two sections come from receivers we run ourselves, at one address; the third from the wider network, most of it other people's. It is a description of one patch of sky, not of a city or a country: an aircraft that never came within radio range is simply absent, and a quiet hour may mean nothing flew or may mean nothing was heard. No positions, identifiers or receiver locations appear on this page. The receiver is a Raspberry Pi and about $100 of parts if you want to record your own.
